In 1988, DEA Administrative Law Judge Francis Young concluded:
“In strict medical terms marijuana is far safer than many foods we commonly consume. For example, eating 10 raw potatoes can result in a toxic response. By comparison, it is physically impossible to eat enough marijuana to induce death. Marijuana in its natural form is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. By any measure of rational analysis marijuana can be safely used within the supervised routine of medical care.”
So then why is this safe, effective plant still a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance with “no medical value?”
This is why, and also why rescheduling to Schedule 3 is for Big Pharma, not you and me:
Medical Cannabis Substitution Effect
- 76.7% reduced opioid use
- 71.8% reduced anti-anxiety meds
- 66.7% reduced migraine meds
- 65.2% reduced sleep meds
- 42.0% reduced alcohol
- 37.6% reduced antidepressants
Opioid reduction was significantly higher than for other substances. Overall, most patients reported using fewer opioids, anxiety, migraine, and sleep meds after starting medical cannabis, with smaller reductions in alcohol and antidepressants.
