If You Want a Better Society… Then Legalize Marijuana. Here’s Why.

At first blush legalizing marijuana might seem trivial, insignificant. But in fact it impacts so much of society, and all for the better. The economy, jobs, public safety, industrial hemp, real estate, farming, public health and well-being, workplace safety, policing, taxation, mental health, racism, civil liberties, government corruption, and much more.

A nonpartisan issue, reform is supported by both sides of the aisle and is actually more in the Republican ideological wheelhouse. Democrats gave us the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937, Minimum Mandatories, the 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1994 Crime Bills, and a Democratic Congress gave us the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 and put marijuana in Schedule 1, then didn’t object when Nixon buried the Shafer Commission report recommending federal decriminalization.
